Practice Areas:  Attorney Lois G. Andrews has practiced in the areas of estate planning, probate and elder law for over thirty-five years.  Her estate planning practice includes the preparation of wills and trusts (including living trusts, life insurance trusts, charitable remainder trusts, and special needs trusts for those with disabilities) and disability planning documents such as powers of attorney, health directives and living wills.  She also practices in the areas of probate law, elder law, protection of assets from the costs of nursing home care, and real estate law.

In representing her clients, Attorney Andrews believes that the first and most important step is to listen and learn about the client's situation.  After she has a good understanding of the situation, she explains options that are available and helps clients formulate a plan of action.  Once a plan is in place, Attorney Andrews prepares documents and performs other functions that are required to bring the plan to fruition.

Education:  Attorney Andrews is a 1969 graduate of the University of California at Davis, with honors, and received her masters degree in political science from that University in 1970.  She received her law degree from the University of California at Los Angeles in 1973.  She was admitted to the California Bar in 1973 and the Connecticut Bar in 1976.

Experience and Law Related Activities:  Attorney Andrews practiced law for two years in Los Angeles, California, prior to moving to the New London, Connecticut area in 1975.  She formed our current law firm in 1988.

Attorney Andrews is a past president of the Estate and Tax Planning Council of Eastern Connecticut.  She is a member of the executive committee of the Elder Law Section of the Connecticut State Bar and was a contributing author to that section’s publication, Connecticut Elder Law, A Desktop Manual, published in 1995.  Lois has also been a member of the executive committee of Estates and Probate Section of the Connecticut State Bar.  She is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, the State Bar Section on Real Property and the American Bar Association Section on Real Property, Probate and Trusts.  She has been listed in Who’s Who of American Law since 1995. She served as town attorney for Waterford, Connecticut from 1991 – 1999.

Attorney Andrews enjoys speaking to groups on various estate planning, elder law and probate topics.

Community Involvement:  Attorney Andrews is a founding member and past board member of both the Women’s Center of Southeastern Connecticut and of the Women’s Network of Southeastern Connecticut.  She is a past president of Waterford Rotary Club, of the Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra, and of the Waterford Education Foundation.  She has served as a member of the board of Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Southeastern Connecticut, and served on the Town of Waterford Personnel Review Board.

Attorney Andrews' personal joys in life include her husband and two sons, sailing, theater, concerts, reading and a recent effort to learn golf.
